Mind, Body & Soul offers a wide range of holistic therapies provided by our fully qualified therapists.
Applied Clinical Hypnotherapy
A less technical definition of hypnosis is: A naturally occurring altered state of consciousness in which
the critical faculty is bypassed (mind in the conscious mode) and acceptable selective thinking established. This simply
means that the reasoning, evaluating, judging part of your mind (conscious) is bypassed. While we wonder how this could possibly
happen, we are subject to it all the time. The advertising industry is dedicated to bypassing our critical judgement all the
time in order to influence our buying behaviour.
Used to successfully treat a range of problems including:

ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a treatment which can relieve symptoms of some physical and psychological conditions and may
encourage the patient's body to heal and repair itself, if it is able to do so. Acupuncture stimulates the nerves in
skin and muscle, and can produce a variety of effects. We know that it increases the body's release of natural painkillers
- endorphin and serotonin - in the pain pathways of both the spinal cord and the brain. This modifies the way pain signals
are received. But acupuncture does much more than reduce pain, and has a beneficial effect on health. Patients often notice
an improved sense of well-being after treatment. Modern research shows that acupuncture can affect most of the body's
systems - the nervous system, muscle tone, hormone outputs, circulation, antibody production and allergic responses, as well
as the respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems.
Typically, fine needles are inserted through the skin and left in position briefly, sometimes with manual
or electrical stimulation. The number of needles varies but may be only two or three. Treatment might be once a week to begin
with, then at longer intervals as the condition responds. A typical course of treatment lasts 5 to 8 sessions.
HOT STONE THERAPY
Stone therapy / massage involves the application of water-heated basalt
stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The
direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage
REMEDIAL & SPORTS MASSAGE
Remedial and Sports Massage use a variety of deeper and specific massage techniques, stretches and
mobilsations to address either specific problems or injuries, or to enhance and enable the body to perform better.
INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
Also known as Champissage, this ancient technique involves the massage and rubbing of the whole head and scalp
area as well as the neck and shoulders. It is amongst the best stress-relieving techniques and clients will often fall asleep
during a treatment. It can be performed anywhere as no clothing need be removed. It can be combined with Chakra cleansing
and essential oils.
AROMATHERAPY
Essential oils which are extracts from plants and herbs are used through massage to alleviate a wide variety
of conditions. A specific blend of oils will be chosen which is specific to the clients individual needs. Especially effective
for stress-related conditions. Advice can also be given on the use of essential oils in vaporisers, bathing, compresses, etc.
REFLEXOLOGY
Also called Reflex Zone Therapy, it consists of pressure and massage of the reflex points found on the feet (or hands)
which mirror the whole body. It unblocks the energy lines through the Chinese Meridians aiding self-healing and rebalance.
It can be used as a preventative measure to maintain good health as well as a restorative treatment.
REIKI
Reiki aims to connect the universal energy with the individual. Energy flows from the therapist to the client to aid self-healing
and reconnect with the ‘earth force’ or ‘Reiki’. Clients remain fully clothed during the session and
the practitioner’s hands hover above or lightly touch the body.
THERMO AURICULAR THERAPY
Also known as Thermal-Auricular or Hopi Ear Candles after the Native American Tribe who are said to have used them. The
candles are hollow tubes made from linen, honey and herbs. These are placed in the ear and lighted. Once removed the ear is
massaged. The benefits are said to help a number of conditions affecting the head, ears and sinuses.
COUNSELLING
There are times in most of our lives when we experience distressing events and feelings which seem to have
no end or solution in sight. Sometimes we know that our feelings are due to particular circumstances such as marital stress,
relationship problems, bereavement or illness, at others we may have no idea what is making us feel the way we do; all we
know is that our lives have become uncomfortable, difficult or even seemingly intolerable.
If our anxiety becomes too
great we can be prompted into making hasty decisions, often to be regretted, or act on advice with which we may not be wholeheartedly
in agreement – and then have to live with the consequences. Counselling can help people to clarify their thoughts and
feelings so they can arrive at their own decisions, or even make major changes in their lives.
NUTRITIONAL THERAPY
Nutritional Therapists must meet the National Occupational Standards for Nutritional Therapy and are presently
coming under regulation by the Nutritional Therapy Council. Nutritional therapy encompasses the use of carefully compiled
individual prescriptions for diet and lifestyle in order to alleviate or prevent ailments and promote optimal health. These
recommendations may include guidance on natural detoxification, procedures to promote colon health, methods to support digestion
and absorption, the avoidance of ingestion or inhalation of toxins or allergens and the appropriate use of supplementary nutrients.
Nutritional therapists often work with patients, many of whom have been referred by medical practitioners,
who have chronic health problems that conventional medicine finds difficult to treat. These include allergies, digestive and
bowel disorders, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, depression or stress, auto-immune conditions, migraine and skin disorders.
Increasingly, parents with an overweight child and/or a child with learning and behaviour difficulties seek to support their
child with nutritional therapy as opposed to prescription medications.
